Meet the artist
I am a Denaa and Unangax Indigenous artist and designer creating contemporary beadwork and wearable art inspired by my heritage, the beauty of the north, and my connection to my ancestors.
Through Ancestral Ties Designs, I combine intricate beadwork with various materials such as furs, shells, stones, fossils, crystals, and precious metals to create jewelry, handbags, and statement pieces.
My work brings indigenous artistry and contemporary luxury together, creating pieces that are meant to be treasured, worn, and passed forward.
Passion projects
Painting has always been a way to get my creative passion flowing again when it’s ran dry. This painting is for my mother, an abstract compilation of different Unangax bent wood hat markings and harpoon markings.
Passion projects
My first piece made with seal skin, it was a test to see how it felt to sew and bead it. I loved every second of it and had to keep it for myself. I strung amber, coral and dentalium, aswell as blue, black and white beads, to represent my Unangax (Aleut) part of me. The fringe dangles remind me of the traditional Unangax and Sugpiaq regalia women wore and still wear today.
Passion projects
An acrylic painting I did of a photo I took through viewing binoculars at a lookout of Denali, this is a small portion of the very very large mountain, the highest peak in North America.
