Meet the artist
My name is Adia, I am an Athabascan and Unangax (Aleut) Alaskan Native. I love creating art with my hands, and working on new projects constantly. Beading for me means following in my ancestors artistic footsteps, and feeling connected to my heritage, my people. Art is my passion and to be able to make art that anyone can wear and love brings me happiness and makes me feel honored. So thank you for simply checking out my work or shopping with me again.
Passion projects
Painting has always been a way to get my creative passion flowing again when it’s ran dry. This painting is for my mother, an abstract compilation of different Unangax bent wood hat markings and harpoon markings.
Passion projects
My first piece made with seal skin, it was a test to see how it felt to sew and bead it. I loved every second of it and had to keep it for myself. I strung amber, coral and dentalium, aswell as blue, black and white beads, to represent my Unangax (Aleut) part of me. The fringe dangles remind me of the traditional Unangax and Sugpiaq regalia women wore and still wear today.
